Resilience Over Burnout:
A Self-Care Program

An in-depth and online self-care experience
with Ami Kunimura, MA, MT-BC

31 CMTE CREDITS

Do you relate to any of these statements?

You’re experiencing burnout, consistent stress, or compassion fatigue

You have a tendency to overwork yourself, have difficulty saying no, or have difficulty setting boundaries

Self-care is difficult because it brings up feelings of guilt

You want to be an effective helping professional without draining yourself

You feel so exhausted at the end of the day even though you love your work

You’re great at helping others but not so great at helping yourself

You can’t seem to keep self-care consistent even though you know you need it

You’re running on empty and still trying to do more

If you do, you are not alone.

And, this program was designed for you.

This program has been a game changer for me.

This program gave me the opportunity to take a long, hard look at my beliefs around self-care and my self-care practices. It created space for some (not always easy) self-reflections as well as very useable ideas and suggestions for dealing with day-to-day stressors.

Ami’s presentation style is easy to understand and it was nice to be able to go through the program at my preferred pace. I really credit Ami with giving me the tools to be able to acknowledge my improvements and achievements.

I highly recommend Resilience Over Burnout: A Self-Care Program to anyone who is interested in the nuts and bolts of self-care and the opportunity to grow your own self-care strategies with the support of a caring community.

Beth Cummins Postigo MA, MT-BC

I can be proactive in avoiding burnout and continue to grow into my best self

Coming into this course, I was feeling drained and weekends did not feel like enough time to recover. My understanding of self-care was way off base. I thought I had to earn it and would withhold self-care when I really needed it most. This course helped me to understand the true definition of self-care and adjust my mindset to a place of compassion and acceptance.

The course helped me to establish daily self-care routines, develop an awareness of my limits, and recognize when I need to implement self-care. Now, I can be proactive in avoiding burnout and continue to grow into my best self.

My go-to resource for the tools and action items that empower me to more forward in a healthier way

Self-care is an on-going journey as the challenges of the seasons of our lives progress and change. This course has truly set me up with a better understanding of how to recognize when I’m needing of supporting myself more, exploring what’s going on, and it has become my go-to resource for the tools and action items that empower me to more forward in a healthier way so I don’t get stuck in a burnout rut.

Feeling happiness and fulfillment at home and at work

Enjoying life

I have more energy, inner peace, and kindness for myself

Since joining, I have more energy, inner peace, and kindness for myself. The suggestions recommended in the program have helped return a calm and comfort to me that I had been missing. I love the program and I practice the meditations daily.

Understanding balance in a new light and with new practices have helped to rekindle joy, satisfaction, success and enthusiasm in roles that began to feel too overwhelming prior to starting the program. Reflecting on how to work hard but with care for myself has made a difference for me. I like being able to move through the program, reflect and participate at my own pace. It’s a great program and it’s wonderful knowing I can continue to revisit it.

I found a new sense of hope for my career

I have had my own ups and downs with music therapy career due to some core issues regarding how I interacted with myself. This course helped me to reach deep down into my own feelings towards my self-worth. While going through Resilience Over Burnout, I found a new sense of hope for my career and I came to understand the importance of honoring my own process with caring for myself daily while maintaining my work rhythm. I felt supported and guided to maintain hope and dedication for my career success while dealing with obstacles.

Melinda Wilson, MT-BC

Self-compassion and loving and respecting myself

This course was very beneficial for me. One of the most important ideas that I learned was how I ended up in burnout, as well as the signs that I was missing. This course put emphasis on taking care of myself and that I need to put time for just myself so I can have the mental and physical energy to do what I need to do at work and home. Several other concepts that ran through the course that I think are important are self-compassion and loving and respecting myself.

How long will it take to complete the program?

You can take this program at your own pace. There are no designated deadlines, and you can move through the material in a way that works for you.

Most participants complete the program in 4-6 months. However, you can go at your own pace, start anytime you want, and there’s no need to rush through it. You can do what works for you.

Each module contains an average of 75 minutes of recorded video lessons. In addition, you can also expect to spend an average of 75 minutes of independent study for the assignments, reflections, and meditations in each module. This works out to about 2.5 hours per module.

How does enrollment work and what is the cost?

Enrollment opens once a year. Once you enroll, you will get immediate access to the eight modules, and you will create a login and password to access the program content anytime. You’ll also receive lifetime access, which means your membership never expires, and there are no deadlines inside the program.

Enrollment includes:

  • Immediate access to the 8 online modules
  • Immediate access to the Meditation Library
  • 31 CMTE (continuing education) credits upon completion
  • Private members only community
  • Four 90-minute monthly office hour group coaching calls and recordings
  • Lifetime access to the program

Tuition: $597 (you may pay in full, or payment plans are available)

What does it mean to have lifetime access to the program?

This means that as long as the program exists, you’ll have access to it. There are 3 main benefits to this:

1. You don’t have to worry about deadlines or falling behind. You can take the program at your own pace without anxiety about losing access.
2. You can re-take the program as many times as you want to and re-vist the program content at anytime. Participants are encouraged to go through the entire multiple times at different stages in their lives, because your self-care needs will change with your life circumstances.
3. You’ll have access to future versions of this program and updated content. The content in this program will be updated periodically with current self-care research and practices.

Can I get continuing education credits for completing this program?

This program is approved for 31 CMTE credits by the Certification Board of Music Therapists. For CMTE info, click here. This program is not pre-approved by any other professional boards. However, all participants may request a certificate of completion at the end of the program, which you may submit for credit on your own. Please check with your profession’s continuing education guidelines to see if this is possible for you.

What if I don’t like the program? Is it possible to get a refund?

A full refund will be given to any participant who purchased the program, completed the program and assignments, and was not satisfied with the experience. Requests must be sent with completed course materials within 120 days of purchase to qualify for a refund. Partial refunds or partial CMTE credit cannot be granted.

Where does this program take place?

The entire program is online and you can do this in the comfort of your own home or office. You will create a username and password to access the program anytime. The office hour calls are also virtual and you may call in from your computer or your phone.

You can access the program on your computer or we have a free mobile app so you can access the program on your phone.

How do the office hour calls work?

After enrollment closes, all new members will receive a survey to see what days and times work for you. The monthly calls will be scheduled based on what works best for the group. These calls will be recorded in case you are can’t make it, and you can submit questions in advance to be answered on the call. Office hour calls are scheduled once a month for 90-minutes. These are group coaching calls with Ami and you can join in from your computer (where we can all see each other in real time) or call in from your phone. This is a safe space to ask questions, get support, review assignments, or work through current issues regarding self-care.

Who is this program right for?

This program is designed for all helping professionals (anyone working in healthcare, mental health, education, service, wellness, etc.) and is especially helpful for you if you relate to any of the following:

– You’re experiencing burnout or stress and want to make a positive change
– You’re at high risk burnout because of your work situation, tendency to overwork, difficulty saying no, or difficulty setting boundaries
– You want to be able to serve others without draining yourself
– You’re having difficulty practicing self-care because of feelings of guilt
– Maintaining consistent self-care is challenging for you
– You feel like you’re sacrificing their own life and health to help others
– You’re confused about why you feel so drained at the end of the day even though you have a passion for your work
– You’re way nicer to other people than you are to yourself

Who is this program NOT right for?

This program is not a good fit for anyone looking for a quick fix to burnout. This program will take you through a process to find the solutions that are right for you and involves deep self-reflection, which is a process that cannot be rushed.

I’m so busy. I want to do this, but I really don’t have the time.

It’s often when you don’t have the time for self-care that you need it most. Not having enough time is one of the biggest obstacles to self-care, so this program will address this, and cover time management techniques for self-care improvement.

A Note From Ami (click to open)

As your guide, here are 5 things I will do for you in this program:

1 – I’ll be the calm and encouraging voice that treats you with respect, grace, and patience – with the hope that you will learn to treat yourself this way too.

2 – Help you find a compassionate understanding and awareness of your patterns, behavior and mindset when it comes to burnout, stress, and self-care – and uncover what needs to change.

3 – Guide you through a comprehensive self-exploration process to define and implement healthier beliefs and habits to sustain your long-term self-care.

4 – Provide a safe and supportive space for you to explore and work through your challenges with self-care and celebrate your progress.

5 – Gently, kindly, and consistently push you to reach new experiences of fulfillment, vitality, and joy in life while teaching you practical stress management and burnout prevention tools for the everyday stressors and for life’s bigger challenges.

I was only two years into my career when I first experienced burnout. I was so confused as to why a job I loved was draining me so much, especially so early on in my career. So I left my job and started a private practice because I thought having more freedom would help me avoid burnout. But it just came back in a different way a few years later.

Then, in graduate school, I completed my thesis on burnout and self-care, and immersed myself in self-care and burnout education. I learned that I was not alone in my experiences with burnout and stress, and that there are realistic solutions to live a more balanced life. However, these solutions are not always obvious or easy to maintain.

Although we know we need to take care of ourselves, it’s easy not to. Self-care might seem like a basic life skill. However, it’s often something we need to re-learn as adults, and continually reshape as we move through life. I created this program to help you do this.

When it comes to self-care, there are a couple things I want to clarify:

First, is that self-care is more than just what you do in your free time. Self-care is more than going for a massage or treating yourself to things. Self-care includes your everyday behavior and mindset in regards to how you care for yourself. This involves respecting yourself, not being so hard on yourself, managing your time, allocating your energy, setting boundaries, and honoring your limits so that you can feel alive and present in your own life.

Second, is that I’m not against hard work. I believe in doing the best work you can and making impactful contributions through your work. Self-care doesn’t mean not working hard and working hard doesn’t mean you’re not caring for yourself. I believe that both self-care and hard work can coexist.

Now, take a deep breath in, and exhale.

I created this program to make self-care a lifestyle, and not a struggle for you. My goal for you is that at the end of this program you are kinder to yourself with a greater capacity to truly enjoy your work and your life.

I have more self-esteem, I engage in less negative self-talk, and I feel released from guilt

This course was outstanding! Ami has done extensive research on self-care and developed a course that offers evidence and advice for preventing burnout and improving self-care. It was wonderful that we were encouraged to work at our own pace and given all the time needed to complete the course.  After all, self-care is important and not something to rush.  An added value is lifetime access to course material.

For me, guilt has been one of the predominant obstacles to self-care. I have always felt I had to do more for others and that it was selfish to do for myself. This course helped me realize the error in my thinking. I learned (1) self-care is necessary when working in a helping profession and (2) strategies for preventing burnout and improving self-care.

As a result, positive changes have taken place. I more frequently advocate for myself and trust my instincts, I have more self-esteem, I engage in less negative self-talk, and I feel released from guilt.

Amy Foye, MT-BC

Ami helped me to see the strength, wisdom and power that are inside of me.

I knew I was burnt out and depressed, but I had no idea all the stuff lurking under the surface that was affecting not only my work but also my personal life. I’ve learned to set healthy boundaries with myself, especially with morning and bedtime routines. I joked that I was 35 and needed someone to tell me how to go to bed properly, but we all have a child in us we neglect and it was helpful to learn how to speak kindly and care for myself in that motherly way.

I have found many answers to the broken places. I was surprised to see deep under the pain and exhaustion, was abiding hope. Ami helped me to see the strength, wisdom and power that are inside of me. It helped me to clear out the fog and see what was there. When I started this process I was incredibly weak. At its conclusion I realized I had been so strong all along.

I learned to love myself, which was my biggest goal.

What I have learned and will continue to work on, not only has affected my job and work, but my identity and my life. I have learned that the care I so desperately desire to give others, is sacred. But – you can NOT give what you don’t have. I knew I could do the footwork of learning about self-care on my own, but if I really was going to make this stick and learn about my blind spots, I needed someone in my corner cheering me on. Ami has become a household name as I referenced her in my life changes. My husband says, “everyone needs an Ami.” I couldn’t agree more.

Truly defined what self-care means for me in my daily life

Back in February, I was scrolling through my Facebook newsfeed, came upon a post advertising the Resilience Over Burnout course and immediately experienced one of those “lightning strike” moments when you just feel pulled to do something. After reading through the course description, my body, mind, and spirit were exclaiming, “Self-care! Yes! Yes! Yes! Please, DO THIS!”

This course not only brought an awareness to my self-care, but also truly defined what self-care means for me in my daily life. The course has provided me with the tools necessary to recognize the symptoms of stress that may lead to burnout. I feel better equipped to handle these situations as they arise in my professional life and I’m feeling less anxious about taking leaps of faith in my music therapy and elementary school music class positions. I’ve been reminded that it’s okay to put “me” first and to make a gentle, non-judgemental space for myself.
