3 COMPONENTS OF THE SELF-CARE CIRCLE
1. Group Meetings
Each month, we will have two virtual 90-minute meetings for the circle to meet together. Our meetings are meant to be a sanctuary that you can visit every two weeks to get a break from everything else that is going on, and where you can receive support, process your current stressors, and realign with yourself.
Starting on February 8, 2021, we will meet every other week (scroll down for the complete schedule). You have a choice of attending either our Monday or Tuesday evening meeting. These live virtual meetings will be held in a private Zoom meeting room. Each meeting will consist of guided self-care practices with Ami, self-care education on specific topics, and time for support, discussion, and connection.
The Self-Care Circle also involves one hour per week of independent self-care practice and reflection. This will include practical mind-body and stress management techniques that research has shown to be effective, yet are simple enough to do in less than ten minutes per day. We’ll stay consistent with these practices together. These practices will add up to a complete personalized self-care toolbox that you can take with you after this experience is over.
Members of The Self-Care Circle will have access to an online portal with our community discussion board, recordings of the group meetings, and self-care assignments. This portal will contain all the information you need to stay on track. Each member will receive a unique username and password to access the portal on a secure site (this is not on social media).
Enrollment is limited to 15 members, and connecting with other members of The Self-Care Circle will also be encouraged with group practices and discussions to build cohesion, accountability, and harmony within a sacred and safe space. Ami will be there for support and step by step guidance throughout the process.
Meetings are held every other week and we have two meeting time options: Mondays at 7:00 pm ET or Tuesdays at 8:30 pm ET. You can choose what works best for your schedule. In case you miss a meeting, a recording will be provided.

Meetings are 90 min long and are held in a private Zoom meeting room.
In case you’re tired of using Zoom, you’ll also have the option of calling in on your phone.
We’ll start by creating an intention
Here are some examples of intentions or goals that you can focus on during your time in The Self-Care Circle –
- Recovering from the stress that has built up this year while managing current stressors
- Creating a new self-care habit or eliminating an unhealthy habit
- Working through the challenges of a transition, loss, or major life change
- Managing stress and/or burnout
- Recommitting to your mental, physical, emotional, and/or spiritual health
- Working through a professional issue or challenge
- Showing up for yourself and for what you need
- Working through feelings of guilt, shame, doubt, or limited self-worth
- Committing to your self-care in a community of support rather than in isolation
- Working through blocks to your self-care
- To stop thinking about about how you need self-care and actually do it
- To stop neglecting yourself and give yourself the same care you give to others
And then we’ll work towards achieving results

- Having concrete self-care tools to use even after the circle has ended

Ami Kunimura, MA, MT-BC
Ami is the founder of The Self-Care Institute and your guide in The Self-Care Circle.
Ami provides therapeutic support for professionals around the world who are experiencing burnout and has presented on self-care and professional burnout at international events and conferences.
Ami has been a board-certified music therapist since 2006, specializing in mental health, trauma, and addictions treatment. Ami also holds certifications in yoga education and first and second degree reiki, with training in mindfulness and meditation. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Mind-Body Medicine at Saybrook University.
Ami will be bringing in her knowledge on self-care, stress management, and mental health as well as her skills as a self-care coach, music therapist, mindfulness practitioner, and yoga teacher.
Ami also has extensive experience in facilitating small group therapeutic experiences, and brings her expertise to The Self-Care Circle to provide a safe and sacred space to cultivate personal, professional, emotional and spiritual growth and healing.
Can I earn CMTE credits?
Yes. The Self-Care Circle has been approved by CBMT for 25 CMTE credits. To earn a certificate of completion you’ll submit an evaluation form, a one-page summary of your experience, and your self-care log and reflections form.
What is the cost?
We have two payment options. You can pay $475 in full or we have a payment plan for 3 monthly payments of $175.
How do I access the group meetings?
The group meetings will be held in a private Zoom meeting room and a link will be provided for easy access. You can join from your computer, device, or by phone.
How do the group meetings work?
We will meet every other week, so we’ll have two 90-minute meetings a month. We have two meeting times for you to choose from: Mondays at 7:00 pm ET or Tuesdays at 8:30 pm ET. You can choose what works best with your schedule. The schedule of the group meetings is listed above on this page.
What if I can’t make it to a meeting?
If you can’t make it to a meeting, you will be able to watch a recording of the meeting. It’s suggested that you watch the recording sometime during the same week to stay on track.
Not being able to attend one or two meetings isn’t a big deal, however, you’ll get the most out of this experience if you attend the meetings. A big part of this is being able to connect with others in real-time.
What if something happens in the next few months and I need to leave the circle?
If you need to leave the circle, you’ll have two options:
1. You can request a cancellation and leave the group. Cancellations may be requested under extreme circumstances or emergencies, and a cancellation may be granted a pro-rated refund based on the date of the request. However, partial CMTE credit cannot be granted.
2. You will have access to the course materials (recordings and self-care assignments) for six months and can complete the experience on your own time and still earn CMTE credits.
What is the refund policy?
A full refund may be requested by any participant who completed the course and all assignments and was not satisfied with the experience. Refunds may be requested by emailing your purchase receipt, the reason for a refund, and completed course materials to firstname.lastname@example.org. Refund requests are subject to approval.
How long will I have access to the materials?
You’ll have access for 6 months after The Self-Care Circle ends. In case you missed a meeting or want to revisit the material, you’ll have access to our online portal until October 31, 2021.
Who is The Self-Care Circle a good fit for?
The Self-Care Circle may especially be helpful for someone who is in need of a self-care support system over the next few months to deepen their understanding and practice of self-care. The Self-Care Circle may be a valuable and meaningful experience for anyone who wants to commit to improving their self-care over the next few months in a compassionate community of other big-hearted people.
In the first week, we will start by creating an intention or goal to work on over the three-month period we have together. You may already know what your intention is, or we can work through discovering what it is. Here are some examples of intentions or goals that may be worked on in The Self-Care Circle:
Creating a new self-care habit or eliminating or reducing an unhealthy habit
Working through the challenges of a transition or major life change

Decompressing from the stress that has built up this year

To commit to your self-care in a community of support rather than in isolation

To stop thinking about how you need self-care and actually do it
To stop neglecting yourself and give yourself the same care you give to others
Who is the Self-Care Circle NOT a good fit for?
This program is not a good fit for anyone looking for a quick fix to stress or burnout. Our three months together will be a process that will require consistency, compassion, and reflection.
